I have had my mirena for five years. It expired on feb 6th. But my appointment to replace it isn’t until feb 29th. I have been experiencing sharp pains kind of in my groin area I guess it’s my uterus but I’m not sure. Is it possible I could be pregnant?

If your Mirena expired February 6, I would consider yourself unprotected as far as pregnancy. Also, since the Mirena is expired, you are probably receiving less of the hormone progesterone. Progesterone is the hormone that regulates your cycle and provides pregnancy protection. Your body may be reacting to the decrease of progesterone and you may be experiencing some cramping. You may also experience some irregular bleeding or a period prior to having the next one inserted.

If you are experiencing persistant abdominal pain that worsens, or is accompianed by fever, chills, vomiting or diarrhea, go to your local emergency room for evaluation.

i’m paranoid. if my boyfriend wore a condom and pulled out, what are the chances im pregnant?

Keep in mind that abstinence is the only thing that is 100% effective. However, if you used a condom and the withdrawal method, the chance of pregnancy is probably low.

It is very normal for men and women to enjoy the experience of pleasuring themselves. Most people do masturbate. This is a very private matter so your friends may be very reluctant to talk about it.

In the past, masturbation has been taboo due to many religious teachings. Scientific research has shown that masturbation is normal and healthy. It can relieve stress. There is no concern about unplanned pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections. 

my last period was jan 15 – january 22 , i had sex and used that ” pull out ” method 2 times on feb 3 , and feb 10 , im suppose to get my period this month 15th , is there a chance i might get pregnant ?

Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the risk of pregnancy.  The withdrawal method (pull-out) is only about 80% effective, even when done correctly. During foreplay and prior to ejaculation,  the penis will leak pre-ejaculatory fluid (pre cum). This fluid can contain sperm, which could result in pregnancy. Therefore, pregnancy can occur, even if ejaculation does not take place in the vagina.

 Consider using condoms consistently or beginning a reliable, long term method of birth control, like birth control pills or DepoProvera injection.  Keep in mind that emergency contraceptives, like Plan B, are available over the counter to women 17 and older. It helps prevent pregnancy by delaying ovulation. Plan B is not a long term method of birth control and should not be used frequently. Repeated/frequent use may actually increase the risk of pregnancy.

If your next period is more than 1 week late, perform a pregnancy test.

i had sex last nite without a comdom

Anytime you have unprotected sex, there is the risk of pregnancy and the risk of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection. You may want to consider having an STD screening performed. Family Planning Plus clinics offer free STD screenings to men and women.

I3 days ago after pops test i got diagnosed with gonorrhea …… I am happily maried for 6 years and never cheated on my husband. i was shocked and was crying entire day when i got my results, my husband is saying that he never had sex anyone but me and i believe him. Also no one from us shows any kind of symptoms of infection. Can it be false positive, or is there a way to get it from something else but sex? please response. Thank you

The only way to be infected with gonorrhea is through sexual activity. This means oral, vaginal and/or anal sex.  Most men and women do not have symptoms of gonorrhea. The Centers for Disease Control guidelines recommend that with any positive STD test, both patient and partner(s) be treated.

You state that your gonorrhea was detected by a pap test. The pap test is a screening test for cervical cancer, it is not used and is usually not accurate at detecting STDs. The pap test may show cells that are suspicious for infection. If this would be the case, then follow up testing, like STD cultures are done. With sexually transmitted infections like chlamydia and gonorrhea, cultures must be done to allow the bacteria to grow.

My period ended January 31st and I know the egg doesn’t fall until 12 or 14 day and today is feb 12 and yesterday on feb 11 me and my boyfriend had both protected and unprotected sex but with the protection the condom broke and he didn’t know and he came inside of me and I am on birth control and been taking it daily and never missed one and I’m worried I could still get pregnant so I want to know should I take the morning after pill ?

Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the chance of pregnancy. However, you state that you have been taking your pills daily. As long as you take your birth control pills correctly and consistently, you are protected from pregnancy. So, for you, the likelihood of pregnancy would be very low.

Me and my girlfriend had unprotected sex at the end of her period cycle, she took Plan B one-step one day after. 7 days later she has her period again. should I be worried?

That is normal.  After taking Plan B, women may experience some irregular bleeding or spotting. A period should occur within 1 to 3 weeks.

Discomfort in the vagina may be due to a couple of things. Friction and dryness can make the vagina a little sore for a day or two, and this usually resolves on its own.

If you continue to have vaginal burning and/or discomfort with urination, you may have a vaginal or urinary tract infection.  A visit to your doctor or clinic for an infection check would be necessary.

My period ended January 30th and I  just started a new birth control on January 31st and missed day 4 and 5 and didn’t notice till the 6th day so i took day 4 and 5 on day 6 and then 6 and 7 on day 7 so it was all caught up. But had unprotected sex on the 10th day and he came inside me. Could I be pregnant?

Yes. Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the risk of pregnancy. It takes at least 7 days of continuous use before the birth control pills are effective. Since you missed so many pills, your birth control was not effective.

Continue taking your pills, try to remember to take them consistently. If your next period is more than 1 week late, do a pregnancy test.
