I’m not sure I understand your question.

If you are already pregnant, birth control pills will not stop the pregnancy, nor will they cause you to miscarry.

If you are asking about taking regular birth control pills after unprotected sex (like the morning after pill), then yes, certain birth control pills when taken in certain dosages can help to prevent a pregnancy.  See the following site for a list of pills and their dosages: http://ec.princeton.edu/questions/dose.html

Birth control pills work best when they are taken regularly on an ongoing basis. If you are interested in starting a hormonal method like the pill, contact the closest Family Planning or Planned Parenthood office. If you live near one of our offices, please give us a call for an appointment.

Yes, pregnancy is possible. You shouldn’t have had unprotected sex until you took at least one full week of pills from your new pack.

Unfortunately, you will have to wait until your next period to know for sure. Keep taking your pill at the same time every day in case you are not pregnant. If you don’t have any bleeding for the next three weeks, take a pregnancy test. Repeat the test every two weeks until you have a normal period or a positive test result. Do not stop taking your pills unless you test positive for pregnancy.

If you frequently miss or skip pills, you may want to consider a method change. Contact the provider who prescribed your pill to discuss your contraceptive options. They can help you choose a method that best fits your lifestyle.

What if you start discharge after vaginal intercourse and your on the depo shot could i get pregnant?

Comments Off on What if you start discharge after vaginal intercourse and your on the depo shot could i get pregnant?

As long as you’ve been getting your shots on time, pregnancy is highly unlikely. Depo is over 99% effective.

Most vaginal discharge is normal throughout the menstrual cycle. However, if the discharge is accompanied by a strong unpleasant odor or if it is an unusual texture or color, you may have a vaginal infection. If this is the case, you may want to be seen by a medical professional for an infection check.

If you live near one of our offices, please call us to make an appointment. If you live further away, you can contact the Family Planning or Planned Parenthood office closest to you.

I have been on birth control for about two years and I’m very good about taking them at the correct time. My boyfriend and I had sex while I was on my period. Two days later I started taking an antibiotic because I was sick. I did not have sex while taking the medicine. A month later I got my period but it only lasted two days. Recently my nipples are becoming darker. Is there a chance I could be pregnant?

Though unlikely, pregnancy is possible even when using a birth control method perfectly. The only way to know for sure if you are pregnant is to take a pregnancy test. Continue taking your pills regularly unless you test positive for pregnancy. Since your last period was irregular for you, take a pregnancy test right away. If negative and your next period is irregular, contact the medical provider who prescribed your birth control for further instruction.

I had my period 1/9.. about 2 weeks later the condom came off w/o my bf or I knowing (1/25). I took plan B by noon the very next day. I got a period on 2/9. It was a normal flow; not too heavy but not light, but it only lasted a day and a half then I had dark brown discharge for a couple days. Now a week later I took a few pregnancy tests and they all came back positive.. how is this possible?

If you took home pregnancy tests, I would first visit a medical provider to confirm the pregnancy, just to be sure.

Plan B is not 100% effective; it only reduces the risk of pregnancy –  it does not eliminate it. Plan B primarily works by rapidly elevating certain hormone levels which then delays ovulation (the monthly release of an egg) by a few days. Plan B may also work to prevent fertilization and implantation, but these effects are secondary. If you had already ovulated before you took Plan B, it most likely would not have worked for you. That is why regular birth control pills provide better protection against pregnancy than does Plan B. When taken regularly, birth control pills prevent you from ovulating for as long as you are using them.

Though it is not common, some women do experience some bleeding during the first trimester of pregnancy. If heavy bleeding returns and is accompanied by abdominal pain, contact your medical provider or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.

If you are pregnant, you and your partner may face some tough decisions (i.e., parenting, adoption,…

Yesterday 2/20/12/ was my 3rd depo shot. My boyfriend and I had sex before I took it and today 2/21/12 I am bleeding. What does this mean? It wasn’t rough sex or anything, but I have light red pinkish blood and I dont know why?

Irregular spotting and bleeding can be side effects of using the Depo injection. This is normal. The amount and length of time you bleed will depend on the thickness of your uterine lining.

Typically, the more injections you have, the less bleeding you will have. But, bleeding can occur at anytime during use. By the 3rd or 4th injection, most women have little to no vaginal bleeding.

At this point, the thing to do is just wait. Bleeding usually subsides on its own. If your bleeding becomes heavier and more persistent (lasting 2 or more weeks), let your doctor or clinic know.

If you were not taking your birth control pills, or not taking them correctly, then you were not protected from pregnancy. During your period, it is unlikely, but not impossible to become pregnant.

Although it is important to take all of your pills, the “most” important pills are the first 7 days of the pill pack. Taking the pills during this week reestablishes the hormone levels in your body to a level adequate enough to prevent pregnancy.  If you have missed any of the first 7 pills of a new pack, we recommend using abstinence or condoms for the next 2 weeks.

It is impossible to know if you had a break through ovulation during the time you were off the pills. Typically, when pills are taken correctly & consistently, protection is effective throughout the period (or inactive pills) week.

Continue taking your pill every day. If your next period is more than 1 week late, do a pregnancy test.

I have only been with one man-my fiance-but before me he said he has been with over 200+ women…i did not know that until i was diagnosed with low risk and high risk HPV and HSV. I have not had an outbreak, but now we are trying to conceive, but since i have been diagnosed, my cervical mucus around ovulation is not stretchy anymore, it looks different…If you have these viruses can you still become pregnant, or is it much harder to conceive? We have been trying for 6 months now.

Neither HPV nor HSV will affect your fertility.  Being infected with these viruses will not make it more difficult for conception to occur. Most couples conceive within 1 year of trying.

Several factors can affect fertility. Your age, weight, health status and regularity of menstrual cycles are all considerations when trying to conceive. Some studies show that smoking decreases motility of the egg through the fallopian tube, and may decrease fertility.  Male infertility can be due to problems with sperm count or motility.

If you have not become pregnant after 1 year of trying, follow up with an ob/gyn doctor.

Anytime you have unprotected sex or method failure, there is the risk of pregnancy. Although prompt use of Plan B can decrease the risk of pregnancy by 75%, it is not perfect. It is uncommon, but a few women will have a small amount of bleeding or discharge during the very early weeks of pregnancy. This could have been from either implantation or from the Plan B use.

If you had a period, it is unlikely that you are pregnant. Your period just came early for some reason. It is very normal for periods to come a little earlier or later than usual. Things like stress, illness, medications, change in exercise or sleep can all affect your menstrual cycle.
