Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the chance of pregnancy.

One of the ways Plan B helps prevent pregnancy is by delaying ovulation. It contains the hormone progesterone. Because of this, your partner’s period may be a little later than usual. Her next period mayk be  lighter, heavier or spottier than usual. If her period is more than 1 week late, she should do a pregnancy test.

Family Planning Plus clinics offer gynecological exams, birth control, pregnancy testing and Plan B at little to no cost, depending on your household size & income. STD screenings are free for men & women of all ages. Please feel free to schedule an appointment at any of our clinic locations.

me and my guy had sex, we used condoms but there might have been a mishap. I took plan b two days later, about a week after I took plan b I had brown discharge. After the discharge I had some light pink spotting, I have had brown and pink spotting for about three days now, its pretty light. I thought I was getting my period because one time I was going restroom and there was a big droplet of dark red blood like my period usually is, but so far I have no flow and the spotting stopped. Its a week before my period is actually due, can I take a pregnancy test yet? Also, what are my chances or being pregnant and is spotting after plan b normal?

Anytime you have unprotected sex, there is the risk of pregnancy.

Plan B, when taken within 24-72 hours after unprotected intercourse is approximately 80%  effective at preventing pregnancy. One of the ways Plan B does this is by delaying ovulation. So, do not have any unprotected intercourse until your next period.

After taking Plan B, it is normal to experience some irregular bleeding or spotting. Your next period may come a little earlier or later than usual. It may be lighter, heavier or spottier than normal. If your next period is more than 1 week late, do a pregnancy test.

Family Planning Plus clinics offer gynecological exams, birth control, pregnancy testing and Plan B at little to no cost, depending on your household size & income. STD screenings are free for men & women of all ages. Please feel free to schedule an appointment at any of our clinic locations.

Yes, it would be okay to take Plan B. One of the ways Plan B helps prevent pregnancy is by delaying ovulation. It does not have any estrogen, so it is safe for most women. Plan B is about 80% effective when take within 24-72 hours after unprotected intercourse.

Continue taking your birth control pills each day. Condoms are a good back up method in case you forget a pill or are taking antibiotics. Keep in mind that it may take your body up to 3-4 months to become adjusted to taking the pills.

Yes, there is the risk of pregnancy. If you are not taking your pills, you do not have birth control protection. Restart your pills as soon as you can. You may have some irregular bleeding or spotting until your body gets back on track. Keep in mind, that you will need to take at least 7 days of the pills before they are effective again.

If you next period is more than 1 week late, do a pregnancy test.

I am on birth control, I take it every night at ten, but sometimes I take it an hour later. My partner and I had sex two days ago and the condon broke, and he did ejaculate in me, I did take the morning after pill on the very same day, and I have continued to take my birth control, what is the chance that I might be pregnant?

The risk of pregnancy is probably quite low. If you are taking your birth control pills correctly & consistently, within an hour or two of the same time each night, then your protection is effective. Unless you totally missed a pill, you should not need Plan B.

If you are taking the pill every day/night, you do not need to worry about the condom breaking because your pills are providing you with the protection. You were correct in continuing to take your regular birth control pills after taking Plan B.  Just let me say here….taking Plan B was not wrong. Plan B does not contain any estrogen, so it is safe for most all women.  If you are concerned about whether or not your protection was effective, take the Plan B. As always, condoms are a good back up method.

You may experience some irregular bleeding or spotting during this next cycle. This is normal after taking Plan B. Your next period may be a little earlier or later than usual. It may be a lighter, heavier or spottier than…

Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the chance of pregnancy. Having unprotected intercourse during your fertile time increases the chances.

Plan B helps prevent pregnancy by delaying ovulation. When take within 24 hours after unprotected sex, it is about 80% effective at preventing pregnancy. But, do not have any further unprotected intercourse until you have your next period. If your next period is more than 1 week late, do a pregnancy test.

No, Plan B will not affect the results of a pregnancy test. If your pregnancy test was positive, you are most likely pregnant. When done correctly, home pregnancy tests are very accurate.

I had my period feb 6-10, on the 14th I had sex with my guy. I think there might have been a mishap with the condom. He did not cum but there might have been precum, I took plan b 2 days later, I have not had ovulation discharge. A week after taking plan b I had some dark brown and light pink spotting, one time while using the restroom I had bright red blood. I thought my period was going to start but it went back to light pink/brown. The spotting has been going on from Friday until now, would I consider that my period or should I expect a full period soon? I took a pregnancy test on Tuesday and it was negative, how accurate would it be?

Pregnancy tests are not accurate until you are at least one week late for your period. One of the most common side effects of Plan B use is menstrual irregularity.  Therefore, the spotting you experienced was perfectly normal. Your next period could be earlier than usual, later than usual, or spotty (meaning you may bleed for a few days, stop, and then bleed some more).  If you normally have a 28-day cycle, your period should come around March 5th.  However, because of your Plan B use and your on and off spotting, you may not get a normal period.

If you miss your next period by one week or more, take a pregnancy test just to be on the safe side. If it is negative, repeat the test every two weeks until you either have a normal period or a positive test result.

The most common reason for condom “mishaps” is incorrect use. Here are some tips for correct condom use.

Always check the expiration date to be sure it is not expired prior to use.
Condoms should be stored at room temperature in a sharps free…
