Fertility depends on several factors. Things like your age, weight, health status, menstrual history, drug & alcohol use and smoking can all affect fertility. Your partner’s health status affects his fertility also.

For most couples, the average time to conceive is about 6 to 9 months. If you are young, like 30 or under, most doctors recommend attempting pregnancy for one full year. If no pregnancy occurs after that length of time, follow up with an ob/gyn doctor or fertility specialist. For women 35 or older, the recommended length of “trying” is 6 months before following up with a specialist.

My gf i think may have Chlymidia after intercourse i contracted a eye infection. we did use condoms last time however one broke and for about 10 seconds i did not have one on. I did urinate after intercourse, what are the chances of contracting the STD. Thanks.

Eye infections caused by chlamydia in adults is not common. However, unless your eye discharge was cultured, you would not know. Pink eye and other eye infections that occur in children and adults can be caused by a variety of different organisms. Eye infections tend to be very contagious because we rub our eyes with our fingers. Eye infections are treated with antibiotic eye dropsand warm compresses, which can soothe sore eyes.

Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the risk of pregnancy and infection. Using condoms does help decrease your risk, however, as you know, they are not perfect. Sometimes, urinating after sex can flush out bacteria and help decrease your risk of infection. Do not rely on urinating after intercourse as protection/prevention. Continue using condoms. Limiting your number of partners also helps to decrease your risk of exposure to STD’s.

If you have concerns, consider having an STD screening done.

Recently i took a plan b due to short unprotected sex. it has been about a week since ive taken it. i just finished my period but i recently started seeing someone who has a larger penis than anyone ive been with which also attributes to the fact that i have not had many partners. but the day after we had intercourse i began bleeding, like a period. i had to put a tampon in. could this be because he is large and the sex was also longer than usual? ive read that i could just be cut inside and my body is healing. this has never happened to me nor have i ever had sex with someone his size. what could be the matter?

It is unlikely that you would receive a cut inside your vagina that would produce that amount of bleeding. Irritation from intercourse may cause some brownish or pinkish spotting, but not usually period like bleeding. You may be experiencing some irregular bleeding due to taking the Plan B.  Since Plan B gives is a hormone, your cycle may be a little “off” for a month or so. It is also common to have some irregular spotting or bleeding after taking Plan B.

If you continue to be sexually active with your “bigger” partner, your vagina will stretch to accomadate his size. You may need to adjust your sexual positions or use exta lubricant for comfort.

As long as you’re not allergic to it, any over the counter pain relief medication (Tylenol, Ibuprofen) would help decrease the discomfort. Increase your intake of fluids like water and fruit juices. When you go for your screening, be sure to tell your health care provider about your symptoms.

I’ve been taking birth control for six days but my boyfriend and I had unprotected sex on the sixth day and he came in me. Is there a high possibility that I get pregnant?

The general rule is that you must use the birth control pills for at least 7 consecutive days before they are effective. It is impossible to know how much protection one has after 6 days. Taking Plan B within 24 to 72 hours after the unprotected intercourse would have been an option. Plan B can be effective when taken as late as 120 (5 days) after unprotected sex. Taking Plan B after 5 or more days would probably not be effective.

Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the risk of pregnancy.

In the meantime, continue taking your pills every day, around the same time. It may take your body 1-3 months to become adjusted to being on the pills. You may experience some irregular bleeding or spotting, Your period may be a little earlier or later than usual.  If your next period is more than 1 week late, do a pregnency test.

i got a depo shot and i got my period for 2 weeks straight what does that mean?

It is normal to have some irregular bleeding and spotting after receiving the Depo Provera injection. This does get better as the therapy goes on. After each injection, you should notice an improvement in the amount and frequency of your bleeding.  After 3 injections, most women have little to no bleeding.

You are still protected from pregnancy. Hang in there and it should get better!

I started birth control one week ago from today. Today was the start of my “fertile time” and my boyfriend and I had sex with a condom. During the intercourse, we heard the condom rip. I pushed him out of me immediately. He did not ejaculate and there was only pre-ejaculate on his penis. No where else .I am honestly freaking out and I need legitimate advice. I have no way of getting Plan B considering my parents don’t know anything about my sex life and I cannot purchase it because I am under 17 and do not have the money. Please give me your honest opinion on my situation.

The birth control pills, patch and  vaginal ring must be used for 7 consecutive days before the protection is effective. The Depo Provera injection and the Mirena IUD are effective after 24 hours.

If you are taking the birth control pills, and have been taking them correctly & consistently for one week, you should be protected. Continue taking your pills every day. As always, condoms are a good back up method to use with the pill.

Keep in mind that it can take 3-4 months for your body to become adjusted to being on the pill. You mayk experience some irregular spotting, and your periods may be a little earlier or later than usual. After the adjustment time, you should have regular monthly bleeding during the inactive (sugar) pills.

I didn’t take my birth control pill on Wednesday but on Thursday I took two white pills instead of starting the brown pills and I havent taken any pills since.

Since different brands and manufacturers have different colors of pills, it is impossible for me to know what birth control pill you are taking. For any oral birth control , you must take all of your pills correctly and consistently in order to maintain the effectiveness of the birth control.

Some women do not take the inactive (sugar or placebo) pills. It is not necessary to take these, however, taking them does keep you in the habit of taking a pill every day. Taking the inactive pills also serves as a reminder of when to begin a new pill pack.

Call your doctor or clinic to discuss this.
