I recently stopped taking birth control because of all the crazy side effects I was having. The first month off the pill my period was a week early and now it’s 2 weeks late. I haven’t had sex in about 5 months but I recently had unprotected sex but my period was already late before that happened. Could I be pregnant?

Yes, pregnancy is possible whenever you have unprotected sex. Do not continue to have sex without protection. Either abstain or use condoms. If you do not have a period within the next four weeks, take a pregnancy test. If it has been less than five days since the unprotected sex, we would recommend Plan B.

Plan B One-step is a pill you can take after unprotected sex to reduce the risk of pregnancy. It works best if it is used within the first 24 hours after sex but can be used up to 120 hours (or five days) after  unprotected sex with decreased effects after the first three days.  The sooner you use Plan B, the more effective it is.

Plan B works by delaying ovulation (the monthly release of an egg), and possibly by interfering with fertilization (the union of sperm and egg) and implantation (when the fertilized egg implants itself into the uterine lining. If you are already pregnant, it will not terminate the pregnancy. According to the manufacturer, the treatment prevents seven of eight pregnancies that otherwise would have occurred.

If you are 17 or older, you…

If you used a condom from start to finish during intercourse and the condom was intact when he withdrew the penis from the vagina, pregnancy is unlikely. If you are a week or more late for your next period, however, take a pregnancy test. If it is negative, repeat every two weeks until you either have a normal period or a positive test result.

Condoms work best when they are used correctly and consistently. Here are some tips for correct condom use.

Always check the expiration date to be sure it is not expired prior to use.
Condoms should be stored at room temperature in a sharps free environment.
Never use an oil-based lubricant with a latex condom. If you need additional lubricant, use a water-based type like KY Jelly or Astroglide.
Pinch the tip of the condom between the thumb and forefinger while rolling it onto the erect penis to ensure that there is no air pocket in the tip of the condom.
Smooth out the sides of the condom once it has been rolled on to ensure there are no air pockets in the sides of the…

Me and my girlfriend had unprotected sex last night. She is on the pill, and has been since November, but she said she has missed maybe 1 pill last month, and just made it up the next day. I didn’t completely ejaculate inside of her, but I fear that some got inside of her. I pulled out when I thought I felt semen. The next day, within probably 14 hours, we bought the plan B pill, and she took both pills. Is there still a risk of pregnancy?

Pregnancy is highly unlikely given the steps you have taken (there is always a slight risk of pregnancy even when pills are used perfectly). If she missed her pill by less than 24 hours, we would not have recommended Plan B use.

However, since she did use it, her next period may be unusual. It may come early or a little later than usual. She may even experience some spotting in between periods. If she doesn’t have any bleeding at all during her inactive pills (sugar pills), she should take a pregnancy test (just in case). But again, pregnancy is extremely unlikely.

My boyfriend’s penis touches the outside of my vagina twice, and he also fingered me, however there was no intercourse whatsoever. I do not think there was any cum or pre-cum but of course I am not 100% sure. We did all of this three our four days after my ovulation day. Is there a chance I could be pregnant? My period isn’t due for another week.

If there was pre-ejaculatory fluid (pre-cum) on the tip of your partner’s penis when it touched the vaginal opening, pregnancy is possible. However, the risk is very slight. You can use Plan B to reduce your risk of pregnancy if you are worried.

If I take my birth control pill a couple minutes late and have unprotected sex the same day but, my boyfriend pulls out all the time could I get pregnant still.?

Pregnancy is highly unlikely. As long as you are taking your birth control ill everyday within a three hour time period, you are taking your pills on time. Use of the withdrawal method in addition to your pill use decreases your pregnancy risk even further.

If semen may have been deposited inside the vagina or near the vaginal opening, pregnancy is possible and we would recommend Plan B to reduce your risk.

I have taken birth control for now 3 weeks, tonight i am to start first set of placebo pills.. me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex after i was only on them for a week, we had sex multiple times. Should i be worried about pregnancy?

If you took a full week’s worth of pills before you had sex, pregnancy is highly unlikely. If the sex occurred prior to taking your seventh pill, pregnancy is possible. Since you just started the pill, you can expect less bleeding during your periods and fewer days of bleeding. You may even skip a period during your first few months of pill use. If you skip two periods in a row, take a pregnancy test. Do not stop taking your pills unless you test positive for pregnancy.

i started bc March 13th and on the 15 th had unpertected sex can i be pregnant?? e

It depends on which type of birth control you started on March 13th. If you started the shot within the first five days of your period, you would have been protected on the 15th. Otherwise, birth control usually takes about a week to take effect and provide pregnancy protection. However, if you started your birth control during your period, it is unlikely that ovulation would have occurred that soon after your period. The only way to know if you are pregnant is to take a pregnancy test. If you are a week or more late for your next period, take a pregnancy test. If it is negative, repeat the test in two weeks. In the meantime, use condoms in addition to your birth control method for the first seven days of your method. Do not stop using your method unless you test positive for pregnancy.

Pregnancy is unlikely in your case. However, if she doesn’t have any bleeding during her inactive pills (sugar pills), then she should take a pregnancy test. If it is negative, have her repeat the test in two weeks just to be sure. In the meantime, she should keep taking her pills on time unless she tests positive for pregnancy.
