The birth control pills are effective after 7 consecutive days of use. It is unlikely that pregnancy would occur this way.

Comments Off on I was on a prescription for Bactrim which I finished yesterday. I am also on the contraceptive Seasonale. Per my doctor’s instructions, my partner and I used a condom last evening which for lack of a better word, failed. I had previously ready that certain forms of birth control can be used as an emergency contraceptive by increasing the dose. For the particular pills I take, it instructs you to take 4 as soon as you can (which I did) and 4 more twelve hours later (which I also did). Because I was on an antibiotic, I am worried that the form of emergency contraceptive may have been compromised so I purchased the “day after pill” Next Choice. I have not yet taken it because I am not certain if it is even necessary. I am also concerned that increased side effects may present themselves. Any advice would be appreciated!
Taking the Next Choice emergency contraception is not necessary.
Continue taking your regular birth control pills every day. Using “regular” birth control pills as emergency contraception was developed in the early 1970’s. Most clinicians do not use this way anymore because the increased estrogen content did create unpleasant side effects (nausea, vomiting). Additionally, many women would forget to take the second dose twelve hours later.
Today’s ECP’s (Plan B, One Step, Next Choice) contain progesterone only. Because they are free of estrogen, they are safe for most women and have very few side effects. Plus, most are packaged as a convenient one pill, one time dose.
The most common side effect after taking emergency contraception is irregular bleeding and spotting. Your next period may be earlier or later than usual. If your next period is more than 1 week late, perform a pregnancy test.

Comments Off on i just had a baby four month’s ago and i was breastfeeding so i am taking jolivette and i stopped breastfeding and continue to take the pill but i haven’t gotten my period…can i be pregnant
Most women do not ovulate or menstruate during the first six months of exclusive breastfeeding. If you were exclusively breastfeeding (not supplementing with formula at all) for the past four months, you may not have ovulated yet and thus have not had a period yet either. In that case, as long as you’ve been taking your pills at the same time every day, pregnancy is unlikely. Missing a pill, taking it more than three hours late, or starting a new pack late will increase the risk of pregnancy. Menstrual irregularities are common with this method. Your periods may be early or late, shorter or longer, heavier or lighter than normal. You may also have some spotting between periods.
However, if you’ve been having regular periods up until now and have missed a period, pregnancy is possible. Jolivette (also called the mini-pill) contains a progestin only and is slighly less effective that combination hormone pills (those containing both estrogen and progestin). If you are a week or more late for your period, take a pregnancy test. If it is negative, repeat the test every…

Comments Off on In October I had unprotected sex, the day after I washed my penis and a rash came up with saw red spots, it was itchy and lasted about 5 days then went. Nothing has come up since except my penis sometimes smells a little but it may of been like that before. Do I have an std?
The red spots could have been anything from pimples from irritation to an outbreak of genital herpes. Unless the rash reoccurs and is seen by a doctor, it is unknown as to what the cause is.
The only way to know if you have an STD is to have a screening done. This usually involves a urine test for chlamydia & gonorrhea, and a blood test for HIV and syphilis.
Family Planning Plus clinics offer gynecological exams, birth control, pregnancy testing and emergency contraception for little to no cost, depending on your household size and income. STD screenings are free for men and women of all ages. Please feel free to schedule an appointment at any of our clinic locations.

Comments Off on I had unprotected sex in which he didn’t go all of the way. he was only partially in for about 5 seconds, and came outside. I have been on birth control for a very long time but didn’t take my pill the night it happened. I took both the next day. what are my chances of getting pregnant?
If you made up the missed pill, and are mostly consistent with taking your pills every day, the risk of pregnancy should be low.

Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the risk of pregnancy. If this was not a normal period, you may want to wait a week or two and then do a pregnancy test.

Comments Off on After my husband ejaculates inside me I dry heave. Is there a direct reason for this?
I am not sure that there would be a direct link between ejaculation and your dry heaves. If your partner is performing vigorous thrusting during intercourse, the pressure against your cervix/ vagina may be stimulating a nerve reflex. It may also be related to anxiety, excitement or fear.
In researching this, I did find that, although this reaction is uncommon, you are not alone. There are others who have this reaction with both physical and sexual activity. If this is affecting your daily life/relationship, consider making an appointment with your primary care doctor. You first want to rule out an physical cause (like reflux).

Comments Off on my period started 2 weeks late than a week after it ended i started bleeding again
Irregular bleeding can occur for a number of different reasons. Beginning a hormonal method of birth control is a very common and benign cause. However, there are some serious conditions that can cause frequent and heavy vaginal bleeding. If you are not using any hormones or if the bleeding continues or worsens, contact your medical care provider for an appointment.
