I am on birth control. Since the final set of pills in the package do nothing for me I don’t take them, it’s 7 days. I had sex for 4 days after my menstruating, but I have forgotten to buy the pill and begin my regiment during those 4 days. Is there a chance I could be pregnant because of this 4 day gap? I began to take the birth control again on 5th day. I’m scared because my period is late.

Yes, pregnancy is possible as you may have ovulated when you failed to start your next pack on time. If you are a week or more late for your period, take a pregnancy test. If it is negative, repeat the test every two weeks until you have a normal period or a positive test result. Do not stop taking your pills unless you test positive for pregnancy.

Yes, pregnancy is possible but many women do not start ovulating regularly until six months after stopping the shot. For a few women, it may take up to two years for ovulation and periods to resume on a regular basis. If you are worried about pregnancy, take a pregnancy test approximately five weeks after the unprotected sex. Use first morning urine for the best results. If it is negative, repeat the test every two weeks until you have a normal period or a positive test result.

If condoms don’t seem to be working for you, you may want to consider a different method. If you live near one of our offices, please call us for an appointment. I live in Rhode Island and went to the Planned Parenthood where i live about six months ago to get an abortion. I was sixteen at the time and got a judicial bypass. I am now seventeen. If I was to get another abortion would I have to go to court again?

If you cannot obtain the permission to have an abortion from one of your parents, then, yes, you would need to obtain a judicial bypass again through the courts. You would not need the consent of a parent if you were 18 or older.

I can’t exactly pin point when I ovulated, being that my periods are a little off by a few days or so. Now Is it possible to become pregnant if you have unprotected sex 13- 14 days before your next period? I would think so but I know The ovulation window is pretty small.

Unless you have been charting your cycles (checking your cervical mucus and basal body temperature on a daily basis and recording the results along with your period days on a calendar for several months), there is no way to know for sure when you are ovulating. Generally, women with 28 day cycles ovulate approximately 2 weeks or 14 days prior to their next period. So, yes, pregnancy is definitely possible.

had protected sex, but then slept with each other and our genitals were touching, can she get pregnant from the left over sperm on me?

Pregnancy is highly unlikely in this case. It is even more unlikely if the tip of the penis was not near the vaginal opening and if the semen was already dried at the time.

If you are worried about the slight risk of pregnancy, you and your partner may want to consider using the morning after pill. Plan B One-step is a pill you can take after unprotected sex to reduce the risk of pregnancy. It works best if it is used within the first 24 hours after sex but can be used up to 120 hours (or five days) after unprotected sex with decreased effects after the first three days.  The sooner you use Plan B, the more effective it is.

Plan B works by delaying ovulation (the monthly release of an egg), and possibly by interfering with fertilization (the union of sperm and egg) and implantation (when the fertilized egg implants itself into the uterine lining). If your partner is already pregnant, it will not terminate the pregnancy. According to the manufacturer, the treatment prevents seven of eight pregnancies that otherwise would have occurred.

If you are 17 or older,…

after completion of period 5th day joined in sex, so any chances to get pregnancy

Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the risk of pregnancy.

Your fertility and the risk of pregnancy will depend on when unprotected sex occurs within the menstrual cycle. During the first part of the cycle, (days 1-10, with day 1 being the first day of your period), the risk of pregnancy is usually lower. During the middle of the menstrual cycle (approximately days 11-14) is when most women will ovulate, therefore, risk of pregnancy is high. The time period after ovulation and until the next bleed (period) is also a time of lower risk.

Keep in mind that many things, like stress, illness, lack of sleep,  can affect a woman’s cycles, making ovulation/ bleeding occur earlier or later than usual.

If the condom slipped off and sperm spilled in the woman’s vagina, there is a possibility that pregnancy could occur.

Neither the emergency contraceptive (“morning after pill”) nor the regular birth control pills will terminate an already existing pregnancy. Emergency contraceptives help prevent pregnancy by delaying ovulation, and are most effective when taken with 24 to 72 hours after unprotected intercourse.

If you and your partner are going to continue to be sexually active, it is a good idea to begin using a reliable method of birth control. Your partner should make an appointment with her doctor or family planning clinic for initiation of the birth control pills. Have your partner discuss the concern of pregnancy with the health care provider; he/she may perform a pregnancy test.

Family Planning Plus clinics offer gynecological exams, birth control, pregnancy testing and emergency contraception for little to no cost, depending on your household size and income. STD screenings are free for men and women of all ages. Please feel free to schedule an appointment at any of our clinic locations.
