Over the past few months, I have noticed recurring bumps on my vulva. They usually itch and sometimes also hurt. They are kind of hard, and some end up looking sort of like pimples but most are just red bumps. I don’t think it’s just razor burn or ingrown hairs because the bumps are larger than that and occur even if I haven’t shaved recently. I did have unprotected genital contact with several partners whose sexual histories I do not know, right before the time these bumps began appearing. Do you think this is an STD or just some other kind of irritation?

Without examining the area, it’s difficult to tell. Irritation is a possibility, but it could also be a mild case of genital warts or genital herpes.  The only way to rule out these infections is to have an examination by a medical professional while the symptoms are present.  The next time you notice the bumps, please call one of our offices for an appointment.
