im 19 going on 20 and i want to start using the injection birth control method but im not sure if doctors recommend this method to teens as young as me.

It really depends on the physician and their individual preferences. However, many teens even younger than you are using the Depo-Provera shot, and it is considered a very safe and effective method.

Due to the possibility of bone density loss, we do encourage all of our Depo-users to use a daily calcium and vitamin D supplement. This supplement should contain 1000 mg of calcium and 800 mg of Vitamin D. This is particularly important for teens. 

Before starting the method, be sure to ask your medical provider about potential side effects.
