Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the risk of pregnancy.
Your fertility and the risk of pregnancy will depend on when unprotected sex occurs within the menstrual cycle. During the first part of the cycle, (days 1-10, with day 1 being the first day of your period), the risk of pregnancy is usually lower. During the middle of the menstrual cycle (approximately days 11-14) is when most women will ovulate, therefore, risk of pregnancy is high. The time period after ovulation and until the next bleed (period) is also a time of lower risk.
Keep in mind that many things, like stress, illness, lack of sleep, can affect a woman’s cycles, making ovulation/ bleeding occur earlier or later than usual.
