Whenever you miss pills or take them late, breakthrough bleeding (bleeding or spotting in between periods) can occur. This is probably what you are experiencing. However, missing pills does increase the risk of pregnancy. If you don’t have any bleeding at all during your sugar pills (the last week of your pill pack), take a pregnancy test. Repeat the test two weeks later if it is negative. Do not stop taking your pills unless you test positive for pregnancy.
In the meantime, do not miss any more pills. If you have a cell phone, set the alarm on your phone to go off at a certain every day to remind you to take your pill. You can also register for free daily text reminders at www.bedsider.org. If you are still having problems remembering to take your pill, contact the provider who prescribed the pill for you to discuss other birth control methods that do not require daily use.
