The vagina and cervix do produce mucus that cause vaginal secretions. This vaginal discharge is normal. It helps to maintain the vaginal pH balance and helps to sweep unwanted bacteria out of the vagina. Some women may produce more secretions than others. The amount of discharge can depend on hormones, and will vary throughout the monthly menstrual cycle. As long as the discharge is clear or white and does not have a foul odor, you do not need to be concerned.
