When semen is ejaculated into the vagina, it does not “stay” in there. The majority of the semen, along with vaginal fluids, leaks out. The vagina is like a tube that leads up to the uterus. The uterus (where a pregnancy grows) connects to the fallopian tubes (where conception occurs). Although the fallopian tubes and ovaries are not directly connected, it is not possible for sperm to leak into the abdominal cavity.
The symptoms your partner is having are not normal. Be sure that she has had screening tests for sexually transmitted infections, which should include chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV and syphilis. A recent pap test to screen for cervical cancer, and a pelvic exam and ultrasound to rule out ovarian cysts and ovarian cancer would be other testing for her to consider. It is importnat for your partner to continue to follow up with her doctor-or other doctors if necessary- until she finds answers.
