It is most effective when taken within 24 hours after unprotected intercourse, but still has some effective benefit even when taken as long as 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex. It is available for purchase to women ages 17 and older at most pharmacies. Women under 17 require a prescription. Plan B costs around $46.
