Please inform your provider about your unprotected sex. Most likely, they will postpone your first shot until they can confirm that you are definitely not pregnant. Depo does not work after the fact. It is best to get your first Depo shot within the first five days of your menstrual period; or, if you are getting your shot mid-cycle, you should abstain from sex for two weeks beforehand. Most providers will also give you a pregnancy test prior to your first shot to ensure that you are not pregnant.
