Anytime you have unprotected sex, there is the risk of pregnancy. You can become pregnant whether its your first time having sex or your 100th time having sex. The probability of pregnancy can depend on where you’re at within your menstrual cycle.
If you are familiar with or keep track of your periods, it is a little easier to roughly determine your fertile time. When you are in the middle of your cycle, around ovulation time, you are very fertile. During this time, the probability of becoming pregnant is high. Toward the end of your cycle (the days just prior to your period and during your period), you are usually less fertile. During this time, the risk of pregnancy is lower.

If you and your partner are not planning a pregnancy, consider using condoms or starting a long term method of birth control. If your next period is more than 1 week late, do a pregnancy test.
