The only way to know if you are infected with a sexually transmitted infection is to have an STD screening done. Typically, when a woman goes for her first prenatal visit, the doctor will screen for chlamydia and gonorrhea. If the pregnant woman is positive, of course, she will be given antibiotics. However, even if they are negative, you cannot be sure about the status of your other sexual partners. Additionally, your baby mommas may now have another sexual partner whose STD status is unknown. As always, using condoms consistently are an effective way to decrease your risk of STDs.
Family Planning Plus clinics offer free STD screenings for men and women of all ages. Please feel free to schedule an appointment at any of our clinic locations.
