Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the risk of pregnancy.

Emergency contraceptives (ECPs) like Plan B and Plan B OneStep are available for purchase at most pharmacies for women ages 17 and older.  Women under age 17 still require a prescription. When taken within 24-72 hours after unprotected intercourse, ECPs can be about 75% to 80% effective at preventing pregnancy. ECPs help prevent pregnancy by delaying ovulation. ECPs do not provide any lasting or long term pregnancy prevention.

If you are not planning a pregnancy, consider abstaining from sex, using condoms, or starting a long term method of birth control, like the pills, patch, vaginal ring or DepoProvera injection. If your next period is more than 1 week late, do a pregnancy test.
