Take a pregnancy test. If it is negative, repeat the test every two weeks until you either have a normal period or a positive test result.
Just in case you are pregnant, be sure to take the following precautions:
- Begin taking a daily multivitamin with 400 mcg of folic acid ( a B vitamin that prevents birth defects of the brain and spine).
- Quit smoking and avoid second-hand smoke.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages.
- Stop using street drugs, and check with a doctor before using prescription or over-the-counter medications (some medications are not safe to use during pregnancy).
- Eat healthfully and maintain a healthy weight.
- Be sure to get regular preventive medical care.
- Reduce the amount of stress in your life (if possible).
- Get regular exercise. Walking, swimming, stretching, and housework are all good exercise choices before and during pregnancy.
In case you are not pregnant and do not want to be pregnant, please do not continue to have unprotected sex. Either abstain from sexual intercourse or use condoms from start to finish for each sexual act. Contact the medical provider who prescribed your pill and explain that you are having irregular menstral cycles. They may want to examine you to determine the cause. You can also discuss your contraceptive options and start a new method at that time. Good luck!
