Ovulation is the monthly release of an egg from the ovary. The egg is released into the fallopian tube where it remains for a 12-24 hour period to await possible fertilization by a sperm. If an egg is not fertilized, it disintegrates and is absorbed into the uterine lining. If sexual intercourse occurs several days before, during or hours after ovulation, pregnancy is possible. So, yes, you could possibly be pregnancy.
Take another pregnancy test two weeks after the first test you took. If it is negative, repeat the test every two weeks until you have a normal period or a positive test result.
If you do not wish to be pregnant, do not continue to have unprotected sex. Either abstain from sexual intercourse or use a method of birth control. If you live near one of our offices, please call us for an appointment. We can talk with you about all of your contraceptive options and help you choose one that is best for you. If you live further away, contact your regular medical provider or the Family Planning/Planned Parenthood office nearest you.
If you are attempting pregnancy, follow these recommendations to help ensure a positive pregnancy outcome.
- Schedule a pre-pregnancy appointment with your doctor. Let your doctor know you are planning a pregnancy. Your doctor will review your family health history, be sure you have the proper immunizations, review your medications, schedule any needed tests, and discuss your present health behaviors/lifestyle and recommend changes.
- Begin taking a daily multivitamin with 400 mcg of folic acid ( a B vitamin that prevents birth defects of the brain and spine).
- Quit smoking and avoid second-hand smoke.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages.
- Do not use street drugs, and check with a doctor before using prescription or over-the-counter medications (some medications are not safe to use during pregnancy).
- Eat healthfully and maintain a healthy weight.
- Be sure to get regular preventive medical care.
- Reduce the amount of stress in your life (if possible).
- Get regular exercise. Walking, swimming, stretching, and housework are all good exercise choices before and during pregnancy.
Good luck!
