Spotting is normal after using Plan B. Your risk of pregnancy really depends on the timing of your intercourse in relation to your menstrual cycle. In general, seven out of eight women who would have become pregnant will prevent pregnancy by taking Plan B within 72 hours of the unprotected sex. Women who use Plan B within 24 hours of unprotected sex increase their chances of preventing pregnancy.
If your next period is a week or more late, take a pregnancy test. If it is negative, repeat the test every two weeks until you either have a normal period or a positive test result.
In the meantime, continue to use condoms during sexual intercourse. Using condoms correctly can reduce the risk of breakage. Be sure to read the instructions on the packaging prior to use. Do not use oil based lubricants with latex condoms and check the expiration date prior to use. Be sure that there are no air pockets in the tip of the condom by pinching the tip between the thumb and forefinger while rolling it onto the erect penis with the other hand.
