Pregnancy is highly unlikely when intercourse occurs just before, during, or just after the period. Your cramps and mood swings are probably just premenstrual symptoms and your period will probably start any day now. However, if you don’t get your period by the following week, repeat the pregnancy test. Repeat the test every two weeks until you either have a normal period or a positive test result.
Condoms are effective as long as they are used correctly and consistently, and as long as there is no penis-vagina contact without a condom. However, if you are interested in starting a hormonal method of birth control (like the pill) and you live near one of our offices, please call us for an appointment. If you live further away, contact the Family Planning or Planned Parenthood office closest to you.
