If you were having sexual intercourse, then pregnancy is possible. Missing pills and/or taking them late increases the risk of pregnancy. Missing pills can also cause breakthough bleeding (bleeding in between periods). Since you just started the pill, you may notice some menstrual irregularities during the next few months. These irregularities may include a missed period and bleeding or spotting in between periods. You can expect your period to be lighter and shorter than it normally is.
Keep taking your pills at the same time every day. Try not to miss any more pills. If you have a cell phone, set your alarm to go off on a daily basis to remind you to take your pill. You can also get free daily text reminders by registering on www.bedsider.org.
If you don’t have any bleeding at all during your sugar pills (the last week of pills in your pack), take a pregnancy test. If it is negative, repeat the test in two weeks. Do not stop taking your pills unless you test positive for pregnancy.
If you continue to have problems remembering your pill, you should contact the medical provider who prescribed your pill to discuss a method change.
