Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the risk of pregnancy. If you are not taking your birth control pills correctly or consistently, you cannot rely on them to be effective at preventing pregnancy. You need to take your pills every day in order for them to work.
If you are not taking your pills correctly, you will also not have cycle control. Missing and being late with the pills can cause you to have irregular bleeding and spotting. Your period may be earlier or later than expected. If you think you are having pregnancy symptoms, do a pregnancy test.
If you are forgetting your pills frequently, use condoms or do not have sex. Family Planning clinics offer free condoms. You may want to contact your doctor or clinic to discuss beginning another form of birth control that is easier for you to remember. If you need to restart your pills, call your doctor for information on when to do this.
Family Planning Plus clinics offer gynecological exams, birth control, pregnancy testing and emergency contraception for little to no cost, depending on your household size and income. STD screenings are free for men and women of all ages. Please feel free to schedule an appointment at any of our clinic locations.
