Some antibiotics will decrease the effectiveness of your birth control pills. However, since there isn’t a lot of research on this, it is unknown how much of a decrease any one antibiotic will cause. Factors determining the effects on birth control may include the type and dose of the birth control pill, type and dosage of the antibiotic, length of therapy.
We recommend using condoms or abstinence while taking the antibiotic and for at least 7 days after the completion of the medication in order to help decrease the risk of pregnancy.
Continue taking your pills every day. If your next period is more than 1 week late, perform a pregnancy test.
