What you describe sound like a classic case of bacterial vaginosis (BV). BV is caused by an alteration in the vaginal pH. When the vagina’s pH become unbalanced, it allows “bad” bacteria to grow. BV is not a sexually transmitted infection, so your partner does not need treatment. It is characterized by thin, white milk discharge and a “fishy” odor. Sometimes, there may be vaginal burning or burning with urination. No one really knows the direct cause of BV, but anything that can irritate the vagina- sex, periods, pads, illness, medications, etc.- can contribute to vaginal infections.
BV is diagnosed by your health care provider during a vaginal infection check. It is treated with antibiotics.
