With perfect use, hormonal methods (the pill, the shot, the vaginal ring, the patch, the implant, and the Mirena IUD) boast a 99% or greater effectiveness rate. That means that only one woman (or less) out of 100 will become pregnant while using this method over the course of a year (regardless of whether the partner ejaculates inside the vagina or not). However, if you don’t always use your method correctly (for example, you forget to take pills), then the risk of pregnancy increases.
