The DepoProvera injection is effective 24 hours after the first injection is given. As long as you continue to receive your injections on time, as scheduled, the effectiveness rate is 99.9%. If you had unprotected sex 5 days after your injection, it is highly unlikely that you would become pregnant, approximately .1% chance. The Depo injection does not provide protection against sexually transmitted infections.
