Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the risk of pregnancy. If your unprotected sex did occur on the first day of your period, then it is unlikely you’d become pregnant. However, if you only had spotting that day, it may not have been the beginning of a period.
If you have been having unprotected sex regularly, you could have become pregnant at an earlier date. Plan B will not cause a termination nor will it harm an existing pregnancy.
After taking Plan B, you should have a period within 2-3 weeks. If you do not have one within that time, do a pregnancy test. In the meantime, do not have any further unprotected intercourse. When used correctly & consistently, condoms are effective at preventing pregnancy. You may want to consider starting a long term method of birth control like the birth control pills, patch, vaginal ring or the DepoProvera injection.
Family Planning Plus clinics offer gynecological exams and birth control at little to no cost, depending on your household size & income.
