If a vaginal smear needs to be taken, blood can obscure the results. To test for syphilis, HSV (herpes), Hepatitis, and HIV, simple blood tests may be used. Chlamydia and gonorrhea may be screened by urine test or vaginal smear. A vaginal smear is needed to test for trichomoniasis.
