Anytime you have unprotected intercourse, there is the risk of pregnancy.
However, the relative risk of pregnancy will depend on where you were at during your menstrual cycle when the unprotected sex occurred. If unprotected sex occurred mid-cycle, which is usually a woman’s most fertile time, then there would be a high risk of pregnancy. If it occurred just prior to or during your period, then there is a lower risk of pregnancy. The few days prior to and the days during of a period are usually a woman’s least fertile time.
If your next period is more than 1 week late, do a pregnancy test. In the meantime, don’t have unprotected sex. When used correctly & consistently, condoms can be effective at preventing pregnancy. Family Planning Plus clinics offer exams and birth control at little to no cost, depending on household size & income.
